Frequently asked questions.

What’s the difference between an osteopath, physio or chiropractor?

The difference generally lies in the approach, philosophy, techniques and outcomes for the patient. Osteopaths treat the whole body using a range of hands-on techniques to help optimise the body and keep you balanced. It is often described as very gentle.
Chiropractors tend to focus treatments on the spine, pelvis, and nervous system. Treatments are likely to involve an adjustment or “click”.
Physios generally focus their treatments on specific joints or muscles after an injury has occurred. They regularly use other tools to assist in their treatments such as needles, tens machines, strapping, and heat.

Please note this is a very generalised and condensed answer. It is important to remember that all practitioners are different to one another, even if they are in the same profession. Each practitioner will have techniques they prefer and believe to be effective.

When deciding which practitioner to go to, ask questions to see if they align with your preferred treatment techniques and philosophy. A skilled practitioner can help, regardless of their named profession.

What should I expect in my appointment?

Each appointment is split into four main parts:

Consultation - We will ask questions about your complaint, general health and take a medical history. This information will help tailor the rest of the appointment to your needs.
Examination - During the examination we use a combination of orthopaedic tests and palpation to provide a better idea of what is causing the issue. This involves testing movement quality, posture, balance, and any asymmetry.
Treatment - We use a range of techniques to stretch, mobilise, and adjust various structures in the body. This is a gentle approach to work with the body.
Management - Exercises may be prescribed and we will have a discussion about expected timeframes and ensuring that any goals have are addressed.
